Hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC)
Separates proteins on the basis of relative hydrophobicity.
Column matrix has hydrophobic groups covalently attached.
- e.g. Phenyl Sepharose - this is an agarose support matrix to which phenyl groups have been attached.
Proteins bind to an HIC column under high salt concentrations and are eluted in low salt concentrations or with PEG.
