Alastair has also delivered seminars in Vietnam as part of the Information Networks for the future: a joint Vietnam - New Zealand project.
While Alastair's students do learn quite rapidly, Alastair is not an expert in Accelerated Learning. If this is your interest, you might want to try his namesake Alistair Smith (who seems an nice chap, apart from spelling his name wrong!)
Research Interests
Application of computers and networks to information
retrieval of document-based information. Particular interests are
- investigating the types of links made between websites, and reasons for linking, in order to have better understanding of web link counts as a measure of importance of websites.
- strategies and tactics for searching web based information.
Maintains the WWW Virtual Library section on Evaluation
of information sources. On the editorial boards of Cybermetrics, the Journal of Web Librarianship, and Information Science Research. .
